NY 5-Hour Online Pre-Licensing Course
$44.95
NTSI has decent content but poor customer service and a frustrating mobile experience. Consider Safe Drivers Academy or Defensive Drivers Institute for a better overall experience at a lower price.

NTSI (National Traffic Safety Institute) is an established player in driver education. Their course content is decent, but my experience was marred by rude customer service and a frustrating mobile experience. Here is the full breakdown.
The actual course material is reasonably engaging. NTSI covers all the required topics with a decent presentation. The content itself is not the problem here. Where NTSI falls short is in everything surrounding that content.
I started the course on my phone and quickly gave up. The platform is clearly designed for desktop and does not translate well to mobile. Buttons were hard to tap, text was awkwardly formatted, and the overall experience was frustrating. I eventually switched to my laptop, which worked fine but was inconvenient. For a modern online course in 2026, this is a significant shortcoming.
I paid extra for the audio read-along feature hoping it would make the course easier to get through. Big mistake. The audio is a computerized text-to-speech voice that is genuinely irritating to listen to. By the third module, I muted it completely. Competitors like DDI use actual human voices that are pleasant to listen to. NTSI's robotic voice is hard to tolerate.
This is where NTSI really lost points. When my One-Time PIN validation failed once, I had to call customer support to get my course unlocked. The woman who answered sounded annoyed from the start. She fixed the issue but made me feel like I was bothering her. Later, when I failed a quiz (the questions are surprisingly picky about exact statistics), I had to call again to get reset. Same attitude. This is unacceptable when competitors like SDA respond in under a minute with friendly, helpful service.
NTSI gets a 7.0/10. The course content is fine, but the rude support staff, poor mobile experience, and annoying computerized audio drag it down significantly. At $44.95, you can do better with providers that actually care about customer experience.

| NTSI | $44.95 | 7.0/10 | ⚠️ Poor | ❌ No |
Course content was okay but the customer service lady was SO rude when I called. Like I was bothering her by having a question. Never again.
Could not even use this on my phone. The site is broken on mobile. Had to borrow my roommate's laptop to finish. Ridiculous in 2026.
The course itself was fine. Lost a star for the robot voice audio which was unbearable. Wish I had known to just skip that add-on.
Failed a quiz because I got one statistic wrong. Had to call to get reset. The support person was not friendly at all. Content was decent though.
